IMPORTANT GENERAL INFORMATION
NOTE THAT ARRIVAL TIME AT LES PASSEROSES ON YOUR START DAY IS FROM 5PM, WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCEPT ANY GUESTS – HOWEVER YOU ARE TRAVELLING - BEFORE THIS TIME. IF YOUR JOURNEY BRINGS YOU TO FRANCE EARLIER THAN THIS, I HAVE LISTED SOME USEFUL INFO ABOUT WHAT TO DO AT EACH DESTINATION BELOW.
The teacher you are booking with will be able to help you simplify your travel arrangements – for example : by putting you in touch with other guests who are travelling on the same train so you can meet in Paris to change stations or hire a car together.
You must send your teacher full information about your arrival and departure if you require transferring. Train/flight numbers, arrival place and times, along with a mobile number. A few days before your holiday starts your teacher will send you all the info you need about travelling. If you have arranged a transfer you will be notified who is collecting you.
If you experience any unforeseen delays or miss your connection on your journey and have booked a transfer with us PLEASE notify us - preferably - or your teacher with updated information as soon as possible. Arrival day is very busy for us and we normally do at least two transfers, so any delay will have a knock-on for anyone arriving at the same time or later.
TRAVELLING TO FRANCE
This is the way that the vast majority of our guests travel to us. Most find it is the least stressful and most relaxing way to start your holiday. It will take about 6 hours including the change from London to Angouleme which is our local TGV station. Prices from about £109 return.
From the UK
It is very easy to connect to us from London’s St Pancras Station, taking the Eurostar and changing once in either Lille or Paris, Lille is easier.
We recommend that you book your complete journey from anywhere in the UK or Europe using www.loco2.com selecting Angouleme as your destination. Loco2.com offer a guarantee for UK travellers that if you are delayed getting to your Eurostar connection, you will be allowed on the next Eurostar for no extra cost.
Angouleme is a stop on the main TGV line between Paris and Bordeaux. You can connect easily from central and northern European countries to Paris and change to Angouleme, the journey takes 2 hours.
Arrival at Angouleme station
If you have arranged a transfer to Les Passeroses, you will be told what time you can expect to be collected from the train station before your departure day. The MEETING POINT is just outside the station by the exterior Cafe. We will normally be able to find you no problem, but we will also be holding a Les Passeroses Yoga Centre sign. It is not a big station.
Departure from Angouleme station
What to do if you get to Angouleme early or have a later train booked for your departure.
You can go into Angouleme or wait at the station. There is a small cafe in the station, or a boulanger selling sandwiches etc. If you want to go into Angouleme itself this is easy, but there is a steep hill. You may want to leave your luggage at the Terminus Hotel directly opposite the station over the road, they usually ask for a small fee per person (5euros). Someone can help you with this if your French is not up to it.
If you have time, we can recommend the Terminus restaurant (not part of the Hotel, but right next-door) for lunch.
If you are arriving a day early or staying in Angouleme there are several hotels.
We are between four airports that are each about 1 hours drive away – Bordeaux, Bergerac, Limoges and Poitiers. Slightly further is La Rochelle which is good for flights from Ireland.
We suggest that if you fly you are probably better to hire a car. We can arrange a transfer from the airport but it may cost more than car hire – depending on the number of people.
As there are too many flight and airport options to list, I suggest that you try www.skyscanner.com and you will get a full list of available flights.
If you are not travelling from the UK or depending on your nearest departure airport, you may also want to look into flying into Paris and then taking the train to Angouleme. If you fly to Charles de Gaulle airport there is a TGV station, bringing you to Angouleme without a change.
At Bordeaux – Merignac Airport
This is the airport most used by our guests. If arrive on a morning or early afternoon flight I suggest the following - taking the jetbus from directly outside the airport. This will take you to Gare St Jean – the main station in the centre of Bordeaux. There you are able to store your luggage in a locker if you want, and spend some time in lovely Bordeaux. Trains run every hour to Angouleme and take 50mins.
We are between 5 and 7 hours away from northern ferry ports. Your best idea is to look at Google maps to plan your journey. For Google maps or for your GPS type in – Chez Broue, Nonac, 16190, France. This is the name of the farm at the top of our lane which is what the GPS and Google recognises.
If you are coming by car please contact me directly before your journey and I will give you details about what to look for when you are close to us.
